New to this tribe...

Hiya.. :-)

I'm fairly new to this tribe... Let me tell you a teensy weensy bit about myself (rest is in my profile).

I live in East Bay, in Walnut Creek. I've been busy writing up my resume and going through craigslist for jobs myself as well. My last Contract gig was with Peoplesoft (I wished Contra costa times would stop printing series of stories about them it depressing me!). I'm looking to get into project management and having difficulty getting my foot in the door.

But also, I'm an aspiring writer as well. San Francisco's been a great place to flex creative muscle. I've been to great queer related readings, performances and the like. There are so many different shades of likenesses for everyone I think.

What are the meets for generally? Is it for networking or talk about self publishing?

They're pretty much networking . . . have a beer, talk about publishing. Very specifically **not** "bring your resume" kind of things. More a chance to get to know your colleagues in the area, hear some gossip, meet nice geeky smart people. Good example . . . Charlie who does Writers with Drinks came to one. I'd never been to one of those events but, after meeting Charlie, got turned onto them, and it was a really cool synergy (if you haven't been to one, I say go . . . good stuff).

As to PeopleSoft . . . do you know Emily Wolman? I know she was there, and I know her from Lonely Planet days (I was her evil boss). She's awesome.

      Hiya Anathemadev:

      Thanks for the big welcome!!..

Oh yeah I know Charlie from WWD I've been to several of them...although lately schedule conflicts galore...prevented me from going to them.

Emily's name doesn't ring a bell from Peoplesoft. I was a contractor there for about 7 months with the Lotus Notes Application Development group. It was a great group of people I worked with, I'm still in touch with most of them (esp the contractors)... leaving psft has been more traumatic than being laid off from Kaiser and I was there for 3 years. It's hard when the whole thing's played out in the media like that.

I love networking!! heh heh..Oh I won't bring resumes...business cards are much easier!!
